Kluang series : Part 1

Good ol’ stove

If you have read my previous post on Kuala Lumpur version of BKT, then you would know what is coming in this post on BKT.

So, over the last weekend, I went back to Kluang to visit my new nephew. He is damn adorable I tell you. I wanted to “kidnap” him back to KL but he is still too small and I was a little afraid that I might hurt him.

Anyway, my mum came back to Kluang with me and my brother. We spent the whole day eating. THE WHOLE FREAKING DAY! I was so freaking full that I suffered from indigestion. Oh! Well, the fact that I was out celebrating Leon’s birthday the previous night did not help. We went for karaoke until way past midnight..and definitely way past our bedtime.

Lack of sleep + Long journey + Dehydration + Constant eating = A sick Brokedork.

Squid in BKT for some extra flavor. The soup here tasted different from those in KL.

When we arrived at roughly 8.30am, our first destination was to my mum’s favorite BKT place at Kluang : Teoh Heng Bak Kut Teh. I hope I got the name correct since I cannot read Mandarin. I just refer to this place as the “BKT next to the longkang near dad’s old office”. Descriptive enough? Well, it was enough for my mum and brother to know what the heck am i talking about.

Mum : You know, back then, we came here almost once a week.

Me : I can still recognize the old uncle.

Bro : (continue eating)

Kluang Bak Kut Teh
Salted Vegetables
White Rice and Taro “Yu Tao” Rice.

One other difference between Johor BKT and KL BKT is that Johor BKT shops usually offer two types of rice : White Rice and Taro Rice. Well, I am not sure whether KL BKT actually serves Taro Rice but I have yet to see it.

Braised Pork

Second round of breakfast at Kluang Railway Station

Before we end Part 1, since we were in Kluang, obviously we had to visit Kluang Railway Station for a second breakfast right after the BKT. I mean, it is only natural…right?

Stay tuned for Part 2 of Kluang series.
